Interview was published by Comic Natalie at the end of June 2018. The boxes released on June 22nd 2018. I don’t really have anything to say besides that as always Tomino is too harsh on his own works. G Reco is one of my favorite show of the decade, and my favorite recent Gundam show with GBF, so looking forward to the movies. The part at the end about SHOWROOM & ZOZOTOWN got RT a lot by Japanese people I follow, which is how I first saw this interview. I only ended up reading it now though, and I thought I might as well translate it and share it. It’s my Eid present to everyone I guess.
I edited the post as I added more tweets and found a partial transcription here. It’s by Inuyou, a nice person who often drew Mouretsu Pirates pics when the show was airing.I think I covered everything I could find now.
Tomino was invited the 27th of August 2015 at the Gundam Café for an event. The Sunrise producer of G Reco, Ogata Naohiro(nicknamed Ogata P) was present along with Bell’s seiyuu Ishii Mark. Yoshida Kenichi was supposed to attend too but he had last minute circumstances. They talked about Gundam in general. It was streamed online but it was blocked outside Japan so I didn’t watch it. On twitter
#Gレコ, there’s some impressions and quotes by Tomino picked by people who watched the event. I mainly picked stuff from this account. Instead of going through the twitter tag, you can also find all the related tweets on matome sites like here. I’m too lazy to link every single tweet I translated.
They started airing the show this week. Every Friday at 7:45 PM. This is why I give them 5€ every month. Yet again, Nolife is one of the few things making me proud to be French.
(The channel is free but if you subscribe on their website you can watch online everything they did since the channel started more than 7 years ago, except anime they aired since they don’t have the rights)
This is the show I’m liking the most this season, even more than Cross Ange and SeHa Girls, and my enjoyments of these shows is already past 100%. I hate to say it but if someone says they don’t like the show because it’s confusing at first it’s because they’re impatient. While the exposition is old school and it’s something we may not be accustomed to anymore, everything is explained slowly as the episodes goes on. If you’re wondering about something in one episode it’ll probably be answered to in the next. You just need to be patient.
Everything is just so good in G Reco. From the characters to the story to the universe. And the comedy. I’m still laughing at the cinnamon cake line, or how Bell apologizes to Aida because he told her something she knows, implying he only said that for the audience so people don’t whine again. I’m liking everyone. I really like Manny( I’m mad she cuts her hair), Steer girl, the nurse helping them put on the pilotsuits, Bell’s mom being so awesome, Aida’s dad being so cool, KURIMU NIKKU, MIKKU JAKKU… So many great characters. I’ll be pretty butthurt if people start dying. I’m already still super butthurt about episode 6.
Speaking of Steer girl, she’s credited as “ステア”, voiced by ミシェル・ユミコ・ペイン. I’m actually wondering if Sutea/Steer isn’t actually her name. Maybe they did it on purpose, I dunno. Not gonna check/search myself. I already have my hands full trying to cover Pretty Rhythm background/staff info etc. Plus, literally everyone and their dog are already translating the G Reco twitter, interviews, and every material ever so I’ll just wait to get spoonfed. I used to read stuff about the show, starting with the first announcement for it some years ago with a pic that kinda looked like tekkaman blade, but now that show actually stated I’m refraining from reading material from now, I want to discover everything myself. I’ll start reading again when the show ends.
Quickly googling in japanese tells me Steer girl’s seiyuu is half japanese half australian, explaining her good FIRE FIRE FIRE pronunciation. Also apparently she’s a singer and not a regular seiyuu.
(Speaking of that, the episode(s) Pretty Rhythm director works on still haven’t aired, so when he said it’s not airing anytime soon, he meant it. Maybe one of the end eps. Also, it’s not his first time working on Gundam, he did some stuff on Turn A and Unicorn)
I wish I made a post sooner because now with episode 9 and how they start to reveal more things there’s less things to guess about and more things we’re almost certain of unless they do a last minute twist.
Some of the things I have in mind though:
Noredo is actually a spy from the moon guys, she’s hypnotized or something and doesn’t realize it herself.
Luin really used to be friends with Bellri to take advantage of him, being the son of someone important. And the way he acts as Mask is actually his real personality.
A few days ago Pretty Rhythm director modified his Hiro happy birthday avatar to this.
A Pretty Rhythm fan on twitter copied him and started doing it with his/her avatar too. I hope it becomes a trend and everyone does it with other characters too.
I still haven’t seen episodes 4-5 of G Reco. I still haven’t seen PriPara 15-17 either but unlike G Reco I ‘m not in a hurry to.
I sure hope you’re watching G Reco and that you’re not one of these impatient kids going “baaaw why they still haven’t explained everything in three episodes and aren’t explaining things twice or more along with flashbacks, this show sucks baaaw” oh and also: “there must be a meaning in every scene/word and I didn’t get it!! What did this scene mean!!!”
I hope there’s a OTR OVA with them hanging together and buying stuff at the supermaket soon. Other new Odeco pics can be found on her twitter. Too lazy to save and reup them here today.
There was a puniket sponsored/organized/whatever how it’s related to puniket event called the Pretty Rhythm doujin event SHT2014 thing the 23rd of September.
There was some new doujins sold there, along with already released ones too. Irua also sold a new Cosmo Sophie doujin there along with reprints of older ones.
Next Puniket Pretty Rhythm doujin event is the 9th of November. info here.
I rapidly checked and didn’t find any info or report bits on the Ookubo Rumi/Mia talk show from September I mentioned in a previous post. I guess the 100 people who attended got better things to do than chatting about how good it was on the net. Haven’t checked twitter yet though. Got not time for now.

Also if you preorder it you’ll get a sticker, and bonus CD with a 60m commentary by director Hishida Masakazu, Asumi Kana(Aira) Hara Sayuri(Rizumu) and Enoki Azusa(Mion). This means there’s 3 episodes with commentary. Maybe they’ll say interesting stuff so I hope someone rips it.
Prince Animage 2014 Autumn got a new OTR interview and pics.
Akesaka Satomi (Kanon & Chae Kyoung) tweeted yesterday that “her chest hurt for some reason”. Ensuing funny jokes like “it’s growing, want me to rub it for you” etc. These days she’s voicing Esdeath in Akame Ga Kill. She seems to like it. She’s also voicing a little girl called Ayu in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V and she seems to like it too.
Pretty Rhythm’s Director Hishida Masakazu said on Twitter he’s working on Gundam G no Reconguista as 演出/episode director. The episode(s) he works on isn’t airing anytime soon though, so he said to watch it every week. That pic above was posted on the official G Reco twitter, staff people during a dubbing session. Guy with the phone on foreground is Pretty Rhythm director. Tomino looks boss.
